Alice at the 2019 Global Free Trade Media Forum

Alice, the international division of the Lavinia Group, was invited to the 2019 Global Free Trade Media Forum held recently in the Chinese city of Sanya, in the province of Hainan, and organised by two giants of Chinese communication, the Phoenix Satellite Television and Hainan Broadcasting Group television networks. Internationally renowned media and production companies were invited to the event to foster trade links and cultural ties between China and the rest of the world.

The forum discussed such topics as co-production, tourism, globalisation and ways to set up projects between the different companies attending the event. Germán García, commercial manager of international broadcasting for the Lavinia Group, gave a talk on “The 5G Era and Media Convergence”.

García said that “China is immersed in a paradigm shift of which probably, due to the extreme speed at which it has occurred, we are not fully aware in Europe. The paradigm shift could be summarised in that China has ceased to be an emerging economy and had instead become the leading or second economy on the planet. China no longer needs foreign talent as it has done for the last 30 years, and is creating its own ideas and formats, which together with its extraordinary economic power makes it a powerful partner for taking on any business project, which also means the media sector.”

In this regard, the 2019 Global Free Trade Media Forum, held on the island of Hainan under its new status as a free trade zone, offered an exceptional opportunity not only to make contact with potential clients and partners, but perhaps also more importantly with ideas and realities that help us to understand each other better, establish cultural ties and, ultimately, trade links.
